Passion

At the beginning of February this year, I attended a wedding reception and there were dancers and acrobatic guys. I have watched such performances before, but that day a thought about passion hit me. Look at how passionate these guys are, I thought to myself. Most professionals are not that passionate about what they do but that day as I observed these dancers, I noticed the energy and love they had for what they did which is not common among people who do “white collar jobs”. After school we are always faced with two options, which are passion or money. People who choose to do something because of money usually don’t enjoy what they do though they earn from it. Then there are a few who choose passion, who do something for the joy of doing it, these are always happy in their work and also earn money from it.

It is important to do something you really love and I believe a passion can be turned in to a profitable venture. There are several advantages of having passion in what you do. First of all you find purpose in life. You feel you do not simply exist but are contributing to the world in the way God wired you. Steve Jobs said “the only way to do great work is to love what you do”. More benefits of passion in what you do are; passionate people are creative and innovative, focused, desire to pursue excellence, put in extra effort in their work, they deliver ahead of schedule, are always motivated and satisfied, have a good attitude and are able to overcome obstacles that come their way because of their creative solutions.

Passion is something which can’t be taught in school, it comes from within. It is an intrinsic trait. Therefore take time, pause and find out what your heart beats for and focus your energy on that. People with passion always stand out from the crowd of people doing the same thing. Proverbs 22:29, Do you see a man who excels in his work? He will stand before kings; He will not stand before unknown men. You see passion leads to promotion. Colossians 3:23, And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance; for you serve the Lord Christ.
