Confidence

Many times we are faced with feelings of inferiority and inadequacy. You encounter a situation which seems unsurmountable. You feel defeated at the onset. You feel uncertain. Sometimes, a thought drops in your mind telling you to do something really big, a thing you may not have done before. You then question yourself if you are able to execute the task you desire to. Is this something you can relate to? I have felt that way sometimes.

Confidence is the belief in oneself and their abilities. This does not come easy for everyone. Many people struggle with confidence issues. These inferiority feelings originate from childhood. The environment in which one was raised has an impact on their confidence. Some people had parents who built up their confidence by telling them who they are and what they can do while others were always put down by those around them by being told that they wouldn’t do certain things. Whatever your case, there is a solution.

Past experiences in the form of failure can also affect our confidence. You may have attempted something in the past which did not turn out well and that affected the way you see yourself in that area. And now, you find it hard to attempt that same venture.

I remember when I was a little younger, I stuttered a lot. One time in primary school during a debate session, I was not able to speak and all the kids laughed at me. Later on, I became “born again” and started praying and reading the Bible. This gave me confidence, and with time I started sharing the word of God with my colleagues freely.

Faith in God is very important in building confidence because faith sweeps away doubts. Feelings of confidence depend upon the type of thoughts you habitually occupy your mind. As you read the Bible and know what God says about you, then your mental attitude changes from a defeated attitude to a victory attitude. The lack of confidence can be cured by knowing that God is with you, He is helping you and that God is guiding you.

Have your confidence in God, knowing that He has put it in you to be what you want to be. Don’t let past experiences, limitations, what other people have said or not said stop you from reaching your full potential. Put yourself in God’s hands and receive all the power you need to meet life’s demands.
